Green Mothers’ Club season 1, episode 16 recap – the finale and ending explained
Eun-pyo stands in the way of her husband Jae-ung, but he walks by her and makes the arrest on Chun-hui. Chun-hui has one last word with her children before her demise. It’s an emotional moment as she sobs with her children—a traumatic moment for the family. Eun-pyo stands by, helpless, lost, and unsure about what the future holds for her friend. But Chun-hui does ask for a favor — she asks Eun-pyo to look after her children.
When Jae-ung interviews Chun-hui, she’s asked if she is why Jin-ha died (due to an overdose). Chun-hui denies she was the cause and states her husband Louis acted suspiciously that day. She heard him on the phone with someone the night Jin-ha died. Louis had always claimed he was asleep when his wife died. She also states it is suspicious that Henry never reported her to the police regarding his wife’s insomnia drugs.
Jae-ung is furious with his wife for protecting Chun-hui. Eun-pyo looks like a guilty figure while her husband lectures her about the law. He also tells her that Chun-hui injected Jin-ha with drugs that could have led to her death. Jae-ung then tells Chun-hui’s husband that he’s not in the clear after his wife has been arrested.
Chun-hui’s husband is desperate and demands to see his children — he’s reunited with them after he goes to Eun-pyo’s apartment. Eun-pyo visits Chun-hui in prison and gives her an update on her children. But she also asks Chun-hui if she gave Jin-ha drugs for her sleeping problems — she feels deceived by her friend for not telling her the truth about that day. Chun-hui states she couldn’t bring herself to tell her but explains there was something weird about Jin-ha’s husband, who appeared aware of the injections she gave her.
Eun-pyo bumps into Rhea at a hotel and feels she looks familiar. She asks her who she is, but Rhea shrugs her off. Eun-pyo asks her if she knows Jin-ha because she looks like her, but Rhea once again shrugs her off. Eun-pyo gets her name from her suitcase before Rhea heads into the taxi. She sees that Rhea has the same last name as Louis and wonders how that is possible. Eun-pyo’s spider senses are tingling, and she has to turn down a lecturing opportunity to pursue the truth.
Eun-pyo looks through Louis’s books and dedicates one of them to his “sister Rhea.” Eun-pyo meets Louis. He knows she bumped into Rhea. Eun-pyo shows Louis a book and raises the theory that he married Jin-ha because she looked like Rhea. Louis states it’s common to marry someone who looks like the person they love — he admits that Jin-ha suffered because of that. Eun-pyo believes he’s hiding something about the night Jin-ha died — she thinks he killed her because he wanted to be with Rhea. As she tries to leave, Louis grabs Eun-pyo but then falls to the ground sobbing — he asks Eun-pyo to wish for his happiness, but she walks off.
Eun-pyo asks Chun-hui again for the truth about what happened that fatal night. She explains how Jin-ha was one of her first customers, but she was reckless with her drug use. And then, one day, all of Jin-ha’s sadness came out at once — flashbacks show Jin-ha talking about her childhood and the massive gap in her heart due to her mother. In the present, Chun-hui describes how hard it was for her to listen to Jin-ha, and she wonders if there’s a chance that she died because of her. Eun-pyo leaves, and she’s emotionally exhausted.
And then, Louis reveals the ultimate truth to Eun-pyo — how he was reunited with Rhea and that he kept finding reasons to contact her. After realizing he had a chance to be with her, he wasn’t sure how to approach a divorce with Jin-ha. But then Jin-ha found out about Rhea before he could tell her, and she was enraged. Having a panic attack, Jin-ha tried to jump out of the apartment window, but Louis held on to her. Jin-ha expresses that she thought she might die like her mother — she asks Louis to let go, and so he does, relieving her of her pain. He tells Eun-pyo he does not deserve to be happy, and so, the next day, Louis hands himself in at the police station. We always knew Louis was dodgy, but we now know the truth behind Jin-ha’s death.
The ending
As we reach the final stages of the series, Chun-hui is granted permission to attend a funeral for her deceased father. There’s a strange atmosphere as she enters the event uncuffed. Eun-pyo tells her everything will get better and promises to visit her — she offers her hand before she is cuffed and returned to prison. Eun-pyo is forgiving, and she is giving their friendship one last chance.
The finale moved towards the end with the life of the mothers resuming; the usual chatter, gossip, and social networking. Eun-pyo is well embedded into the community now, giving advice to another new mother. As the episode ends, Eun-pyo bumps into Chun-hui — she’s free and out of prison. Their friendship can resume. Chun-hui can start a new life.
The finale is emotional and brings an ultimate reveal to end a well-dramatized K-Drama series.
