Mystery Book Club
Join the Monday Morning Mystery Book Club hosted by the Eureka Public Library, 202 S. Main St.,to help solve crimes of mystery, mayhem and murder. The book club meets at the library the second Monday of each month to explore different themes and authors within the mystery and suspense genres.
For the next meeting, at 10 a.m. Sept. 9, the club will be discussing the mysteries and thrillers they’ve been reading lately. For more information, contact the library at 309-467-2922.
Master Gardeners: Herbs
Master Gardener Gretchen Strauch will be at the library to talk about Herbs for the September 2024 Master Gardener program at 6 p.m. Sept. 9.
Everyone knows herbs are good for cooking, but she'll talk about other healthy ways to use herbs in everyday life.

Family Puzzle Challenge
Eureka Public Library is excited to host its first Family Puzzle Challenge at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12.
Teams of four participants will attempt to finish a 500-piece puzzle the fastest. All teams must have at least one member under the age of 18.
Space is limited and registration is open now. Teams must register at the library’s adult circulation desk.
Each registered team will receive the same 500-piece puzzle and will have up to two hours to complete as much of the puzzle as possible. The first-place team will win a fabulous prize!

Local author fair
Eureka Public Library is thrilled to be hosting Read Local, the library’s second annual local author fair 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
Attending will be seven local authors from across Central Illinois who write everything from children’s picture books to young adult mysteries to parenting/self-help to different genres of adult fiction. The authors scheduled to attend are Olivia Bennett (Washington), Steve Guernsey (Tremont), McKayla Jade (Washburn), J. Lawson (Peoria), L.E. Magruder (Goodfield), Amy L. Sauder (East Peoria), and Jennifer Thompson (Metamora).
Stop by the library to chat, purchase books, and/or get a book signed. There will be fun activities and giveaways as well.

Cookie decorating
Eureka Public Library will be hosting a fun cookie decorating demo with Ailey Leman 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 in the children’s library.
This free class is designed for children in grades 3 and up and their grown-ups to participate together. Registration is required in the children's library.

Middle school art
Local artist Jen Johnson is back with a new art class for middle school students grades 5 to 8. September’s MS Art program on oil pastel sunflowers will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 16

AARP Smart Driver
The AARP Smart Driver program back at the library from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 and Thursday, Sept. 12.
The Smart Driver class focuses on refreshing participants’ knowledge of local driving laws and regulations and introduces new laws, driving concepts and changes in automobiles, roadways and traffic over the past decade.
The class includes information on the effect of medications, drugs and alcohol on the ability to drive safely. The class is designed for drivers aged 50 and older and also provides exercise recommendations for remaining agile, mobile, and strong enough to properly drive a vehicle safely.
Participants who complete the two-day course may be entitled to a discount on their auto liability insurance.
The class fee is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members, payable by cash or check made out to AARP only. Space is limited and registration is required.
